Performance-Focused Learning Design

Good learning doesn’t begin with content. It begins with what people need to do differently.

I design clear, visual, interactive learning experiences that connect performance needs with thoughtful instructional design, technology, and storytelling.

What I can build for you

Three ways I bring instructional design, visual thinking, and technology together to support learning and performance.

Scenario & Storyboard Design

Clear learning structures, realistic decisions, and visual storyboards that connect instructional goals with the experience learners actually see.

Interactive eLearning Development

Storyline and Rise experiences built around meaningful interaction, feedback, branching, and visual clarity rather than interaction simply for its own sake.

Process

How I Build

A practical design approach that connects the learning problem, the learner experience, and the tools used to build it.

Start with the performance need

Before choosing an interaction or tool, I look at what people actually need to understand, decide, or do differently.

Design the whole experience

Content, visuals, decisions, feedback, navigation, and technology work together as one system rather than as separate pieces.

Build, test, and refine

Prototypes and working builds make the design visible early, so the experience can improve before complexity becomes expensive.

Want to see what that looks like?

Hi, I’m Dave

I’m an instructional designer with a multidisciplinary background across visual design, technology, teaching, and user experience. I bring those perspectives together to make learning clearer, more useful, and more human.

Visual design came first

A background in visual, spatial, and interface design still shapes how I organize information and think about learning experiences.

Teaching changed the question

Working with learners shifted my attention from what something looks like to what people need to understand and do.

Technology expanded the possibilities

Digital learning, interaction design, multimedia, and emerging AI tools give me more ways to build responsive learning experiences.

I still think in systems

Whether I’m designing a scenario, screen, or course, I’m always looking at how the individual parts contribute to the whole experience.

Curiosity keeps the work moving

I keep exploring new tools, disciplines, and ways of thinking when they can make learning more useful, visual, interactive, or human.
